Putting Ads on a Blog

A long time ago, I signed up for the chitika ad network. I think it was Felicia that referred me, she reported that they were bringing her more income than her adsense ads. I liked them because they were keyword-based, but not because of the content on the page, because of the words someone searched for when they found you.

For example, On another site of mine, I have an article with DIY in the title. I’m pretty sure, based upon the keywords people are using when they get to that post, that I am NOT what they’re looking for. I setup the Chitika ads to appear ONLY on single-post pages (which is how the Search engines index) and ONLY for traffic that arrives via search engine.

So someone who arrives via an email, forum post or another link will never see the ads. In fact, in order for ME to see the ad, I need to add a search code to the end of the URL or find myself in a search engine in order to see it.

If you click here, you’ll see what it looks like if you found this page via search for “blog advertising”

Anyway- I added the code to 14 sites this morning in about 20 minutes. They have a promotion right now where they’re doubling your revenue for the month of October, up to $100.  Additionally, when I signed up, they added a $9 bonus to my account.

So here are the advantages

*search term based ads are a service to the reader

*$9 sign-on bonus

*ads don’t appear to your regular readers, only to search engine visitors

*If there are no ads for the search term (like if someone was looking for “Lisa Russell’s writing blog”) then the entire thing simply doesn’t show up

* This month they are doubling the revenue

*Felicia says she’s making more with chitika than with adsense

*Adsense contract only allows for 3 adblocks per page and there are oh so many other places to PUT ads  (clearly I’m an ad junkie- it’s working for me)

*It’s never wise to put ALL your eggs into one basket, so you should have more than one source of revenue on a website.

OK- there are all my reasons, go sign up and have fun. Let me know if you have any questions, I’d be happy to help you find the answers.
